Vasectomy is the most reliable form of permanent contraception, with a failure rate far lower than tubal ligation and none of the risks of a major operation. The no-scalpel technique uses a single tiny puncture rather than incisions, which means less bleeding, less discomfort, and no stitches.
What to expect
- Consultation — Dr. Sosenko reviews the procedure, its permanence, and alternatives; the procedure may be done at the same visit or scheduled
- The procedure — about 15–20 minutes in the office under local anesthesia; most men describe pressure rather than pain
- Recovery — rest and ice for 24–48 hours, back to desk work in one to two days and full activity in about a week
- Follow-up — a semen analysis roughly three months later confirms success; continue other contraception until then
Vasectomy does not change testosterone, sexual function, or sensation.
