Testicular and scrotal conditions

A new lump, pain, or swelling in the scrotum deserves prompt evaluation. Most causes are benign, but a painless testicular mass can be cancer, and sudden severe pain can be torsion — an emergency. Dr. Sosenko sees new scrotal complaints quickly.

Common conditions

• Hydrocele — fluid around the testicle causing painless swelling
• Varicocele — enlarged veins that can cause a dull ache or affect fertility
• Epididymitis / orchitis — infection or inflammation causing pain and swelling
• Spermatocele and epididymal cysts — benign fluid-filled cysts
• Chronic scrotal pain
• Testicular masses — evaluated the same day or next day with ultrasound

Treatment

Many conditions need only reassurance or medication. When surgery is warranted — hydrocelectomy, varicocelectomy, spermatocelectomy, or orchiectomy — Dr. Sosenko performs these general scrotal procedures as outpatient surgery at Physicians Surgery Center in Lebanon.
