Overactive Bladder

Sudden, hard-to-control urges to urinate, going frequently, and waking at night. Very treatable, with options from bladder training to Botox and nerve stimulation.

Overactive bladder (OAB)

Overactive bladder is a group of symptoms — urgency, frequency, waking at night to urinate, and sometimes leakage before you reach the bathroom — caused by the bladder muscle squeezing when it should be relaxed. It affects millions of adults, women and men alike, and it is not simply "part of getting older."

How Dr. Sosenko approaches it

  • A careful history, a bladder diary, urinalysis and a simple bladder scan to rule out infection, retention, or other causes
  • First-line measures that work: fluid and caffeine adjustments, timed voiding, bladder training and pelvic-floor exercises
  • Medications (anticholinergics or beta-3 agonists) when lifestyle changes are not enough
  • Advanced therapies for persistent symptoms — bladder Botox injections and nerve stimulation (tibial or sacral neuromodulation) — most performed in the office

Dr. Sosenko is particularly focused on bladder control problems and offers the full range of guideline-recommended treatments, so patients are not stuck on a medication that is not working.
